Life Celebration Ceremony Planned for Charnett Moffett

The family of Charnett Moffett has announced it is planning a life celebration ceremony for the late bassist in New York City in “late August or early September.”

Moffett passed on Apr. 11 after a heart attack. He was an extraordinary player, much admired in the jazz community.

His career began at the age of eight. Moffett toured the Far East with his family’s band in 1975. In the years that followed, he worked with both Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Art Blakey, Ornette Coleman, Pharoah Sanders, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Sharrock and a long list of others.
