Cue the dream sequence. Russian multimedia glitch artist Waveplay has produced what may be the most defiantly creative album of his 10-disc catalogue. On Hold offers 15 quick hits of heavily processed electronics. It is deeply weird and no less wonderful.
If there is a recording on this album that plays at its natural speed, it is well buried. Sounds twist, turn and spiral under the heavy weight of static and surface noise.
None of which is to say that this belongs filed under Noise. This is more musical than many of the glitch recordings you’ve heard. The 15 pieces are presented as one major composition, seamlessly. It’s a mesmerizing ride.
Waveplay is also an impressive visual artist, as you can see from this album’s cover. Check out more of his beautiful work at imgni.com.
