Joy Guidry Wins 2021 Berlin Prize for New Artists

Bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry has won the 2021 Berlin Prize for New Artists. Their latest is Radical Acceptance, released this past February by Whited Sepulchre Records.

“One of the reasons that we created the Berlin Prize for Young Artists was to award musicians with singular voice and vision,” writes the jury. “[Guidry] redefined the potential of a classical music program, finding musicality in a range of media including spoken word, film and fixed media. All of this heightened an already-phenomenal bassoon technique to create a multifaceted performance that was intimate, raw and genuinely moving.”

The competition drew 230 applications from 49 countries.

Guidry earned a bachelor’s degree in bassoon performance from the Peabody Conservatory. They also have a graduate performance diploma from the Mannes School of Music.
