Nonesuch has announced a new box set celebrating the recordings of the great U.S. composer John Adams.
Collected Works drops June 24. Its 40 discs include 35 originally released by Nonesuch and another five licensed from other labels. The comprehensive package features more than four decades of work and a pair of booklets featuring contributions by Timo Andres, Julia Bullock, Nico Muhly, Jake Wilder-Smith and Robert Hurwitz, Nonesuch’s chairman emeritus.
“John Adams coming to the label was one of the central events in our company’s history,” says Hurwitz. “The recordings were done in real time, mostly within a few months of a piece’s first performance. Every recording was either conducted by John, or made under close supervision of the composer, who was in the control booth for every album – when he wasn’t on the podium.”
