North Atlantic Drift – Departures, Vol. 2

nad vol 2Before there was a podcast, a book or radio program, before there was really even much of a blog called BADD PRESS, I got an email from Adam Bentley at Auteur Research.

“Wanted to send you the new music video from Toronto ambient duo North Atlantic Drift,” he wrote. “The song is off their upcoming LP Departures Vol. 1, out March 17 on Polar Seas Recording.”

As a newcomer to music blogging, an actual email from an actual promoter struck me as impossibly exciting. The fact that my initial posts had attracted such a quality recommendation wasn’t a bad boost either.

That was Departures, Vol. 1. A genuinely terrific effort I described as “layered and deeply textured.

Departures Vol. 1 will make you want to upgrade your headphones,” I wrote. (I actually did a short time later.)

Eighteen months later, Vol. 2 is making that investment feel like a good one. Brad Deschamps and Mike Abercrombie haven’t missed a beat with this follow-up.

These eight new tracks are like freshly polished antiques. They direct our focus back in time while simultaneously brightening whichever room they occupy in the here and now.

Absolutely lovely.
